Day Care
Gjorgji Despodov
Day Care is a series of four short animated films about a time when you were not constantly online. You turned on the computer, connected and, as it were, entered another world. The screen became a portal to colorful landscapes, strange places and fantasy worlds. Inspired by early digital culture and dreamlike images, these worlds feel at once familiar and out of reach. Spaces stretch, change and behave strangely. Day Care takes you to a place between memory and fantasy, where you can get lost and escape the world around you.

About the artist

Gjorgji Despodov is a multidisciplinary artist from North Macedonia, currently living in The Hague. He obtained a master's degree in Non-Linear Narrative at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In 2025 he received the STRP Young ACT Award for his graduation project.
Despodov's work combines research methods with playful elements, rooted in storytelling and deeply connected to the internet and digital culture. His work often uses everyday objects that reflect personal experiences while opening gateways to speculative, world-building stories. His work straddles the border between physical and digital environments. He calls his projects provocotypes: prototypes that are not aimed at solving problems, but at provoking, and which insist on incompleteness as a method of criticism. Unlike functional prototypes that strive for optimization, provocotypes thrive in friction. They do not provide answers, but interruptions, creating space for dialogue and critical reflection.
